What are the differences between U6 & U8 Mite Hockey?

The U6 and U8 Mite age levels focus on learning to skate and play in a fun high-skill growth environment. Kids are grouped by age and skill level and play cross-ice hockey to maximize player development.

U6 Mites, also called "Mini-Mites", are for players who are typically 5 or 6 years old. The U6 Mites skate twice a week and the program is designed to meet the needs of the first-time hockey player.   Our focus will be on skating fundamentals, small games, and developing a love of the game. At this level, a few hockey jamboree weekends are scheduled with teams from other cities, which the kids love.

U8 Mites is the next level in a young hockey player's journey. The players are generally 7 and 8-year-olds and work on building confidence and beginning team play skills. However, the focus at the U8 Mites level is still on skating, basic hockey skills, and learning the game.

Both U6 and U8 Mites are designed to balance skill development, introducing the game of hockey, having fun, and developing a love for the game.  We utilize the ADM hockey philosophy which introduces skill development through small-area games.  This teaching methodology has proven very effective for skills but also maintains the player’s interest in the game.
